Southern Idaho Mycological Association
About Southern Idaho Mycological Association (SIMA)
The Southern Idaho Mycological Association (SIMA) is made up of amateur and professional mycologists and people who just love mushrooms. It was originally founded in 1976 and has held hundreds of educational events and identified thousands of mushrooms. Anyone and everyone is welcome, and encouraged, to join the club. Because SIMA is a 501c3 non-profit organization, they greatly appreciate and value member involvement to help keep the association going.
Becoming a member
An individual can become a member for $25 or you can register your family for $30. SIMA prints a membership booklet once per year with contact information for all its members. (If you prefer to not share your contact information, you can opt out.) Please contact the club at: [email protected] for more information about joining SIMA.
Special Events
SIMA will hold at least one foray in spring and fall that are each held over 3-4 days. There will be multiple opportunities for collecting and identifying many different types of mushrooms. They will hold other forays as time and interest permits.
The regular monthly meetings are held at the Idaho Fish and Game headquarters in Boise on the second Monday of each month from 7pm to 8:30pm. Generally the meetings are held from January to May and September to November. In December they hold a potluck celebration.
Staying up to date
The best way to stay up to date with the Southern Idaho Mycological Association is by becoming a member to receive their newsletter. The club puts out a bi-monthly newsletter to its members. They also have a Facebook page where they post information about their different meetings.
SIMA is an active group of professional and amature mycologists and mushroom enthusiasts. If you are in the Boise area and are interested in learning more about mushrooms and would also like to meet some like minded people, SIMA is the way to go.
