About Central New York Mycological Society (CNYMS)
The Central New York Mycological Society is a club of amateur and professional mycologists. The club holds regular forays from Apr through Oct/Nov in the Syracuse NY area. They welcome anyone that is interested in mushrooms to come out to one of their forays to see what it’s all about. You are welcome to attend your first few forays for free. They hope though that eventually you will consider becoming a member.
Becoming a member
The annual cost to become a member of the CNYMS for an individual is $10 and $20 for a family. They also have a student option for $5 per year. They prefer if you can pay for two years at once if possible. You can find out more about becoming a member on their website HERE.
Special Events
The CNYMS will hold regular forays throughout mushroom season. (April to Oct/Nov), but they also have other types of meetings. Such as:
- Identification Sessions
- Workshops
- General group discussions
- Other mushroom related events
Staying up to date
There are 2 main ways to stay up to date with the CNYMS at this time.
The first is the club’s monthly newsletter. The “Fungal Gazette” is a 5ish page newsletter and in it you can find the dates, times and locations of the clubs upcoming meetings. The newsletter also has other information such as recipes and mushroom related articles. You can download past versions of the newsletter HERE, and you can start receiving the newsletter when you become a member.
Second is the groups Facebook page. The groups page is is up to date with the latest events and meetings and if you like the page and are on Facebook is an easy way to know when things are happening.
The Central New York Mycological Society is a great group for amateur and professional mycologists alike. The fact you can attend your first few meetings/forays for free is great. If you are in the Syracuse area and interested in mushrooms, you should definitely check them out!
