Boston Mycological Club
About The Boston Mycological Club (BMC)
The Boston Mycological Club was founded in 1895 and is one of, if not the, oldest continuously existing amateur mycological clubs in the world. Originally to join the BMC you had to be nominated by 2 existing BMC members. Now, the BMC is happy and excited to welcome everyone to join and share in the love of mushrooms. They only have two main rules. The first is to respect each other, locations visited and the planet’s ecosystems. The second, HAVE FUN!
The BMC is a very active community with a private Facebook group, Google Group and a very up to date and active website. To gain access to both groups, you will need to become a member.
Becoming a member
An annual membership with the BMC will run you $20 for an individual, $25 for a family or $10 for students. You can find out more information about being a member and joining the BMC on their website, here.
Special Events
As mentioned previously, the BMC is a very active group and has many events throughout the year. To include:
- Forays
- A banquet
- Potluck
- Wine and Cheese movie nights
- In person lectures
- and more
If you decide to join the club and participate in the forays, you’ll meet people with all sorts of different interests in mushrooms. Photography, collecting, cooking, eating, identifying, microscopy, chemistry, DNA and more.
Staying up to date
The BMC has several great ways to stay connected once you are a member. Definitely take advantage of the Facebook and Google group as they are sure to be very active. Their website also has very up to date information and great resources for professional and amateur mycologists.
The Boston Mycological Club is one of the oldest mycological related clubs in the world and has several ways for you to engage and interact with the club. If you are in the New England area and love mushrooms, you should definitely check them out!
